Recent sessions and updates

We’ve been moving fairly quickly through the sessions in the last few days and I needed to make some updates to the site and reflect a little on the progress we’ve been making. The following are now available:

  • an updated library reading list with the preliminary bibliography so you can now check where the books are much more efficiently
  • slides for the workshop sessions ‘Libraries and internet resources’ and ‘Managing your references’
  • an expanded blogroll of student blogs.

My feeling so far is that the workshop sessions have been useful. It may seem early to start thinking about your independent study but … it’s not! Knowing what’s required, talking to previous students, acquiring the study tools you need, are all important at this stage.

Now you have a few days to think about your ideas and potential areas. Explore. Don’t rule anything out. Contact staff who you think may be interested in the areas/questions you are forming. Talk to each other. Use your blogs! What feel like half-baked ideas can often be the seeds for very valuable projects.
