I find email alerts to be a great system for getting information that might be useful into my in-box and before my eyes. It’s easy to delete something, but not receiving the update/news item can be critical. I have email alerts with publishers, journals, conference organisors and professional organisations. I also have google alerts set up with particular search items so when items are added I get notified.
